Top 9 Strongest Hashira Ranked
The Hashira are essentially the Avengers of the Demon Slayer universe.
They are the elite warriors of the Demon Slayer Corps, and becoming one means surviving countless battles against demons that ordinary swordsmen wouldn't stand a chance against.
But who is actually the strongest?
That's where things get complicated.
Some Hashira have incredible physical strength. Others rely on speed, technique, intelligence, or unique abilities. Some awakened the Demon Slayer Mark, while others never got the opportunity to reach that stage.
For this ranking, we're looking at each Hashira at their strongest demonstrated version in the manga, considering combat feats, Breathing Style, physical abilities, Demon Slayer Marks, weapons, and battles against Upper Rank demons.

Major spoilers ahead.

1. Gyomei Himejima

Gyomei is widely regarded as the strongest Hashira, and for good reason. The Stone Hashira possesses extraordinary physical strength, incredible battle instincts, and years of experience. Despite being blind, his hearing and other senses allow him to perceive his surroundings with remarkable accuracy.
His chained axe and flail make his fighting style completely different from traditional swordsmanship. After awakening his Demon Slayer Mark and gaining access to the Transparent World and red weapon, Gyomei becomes even more terrifying.
His battle against Kokushibo proves that he can stand alongside the strongest demons in existence.

2. Sanemi Shinazugawa

Blog image
Sanemi is arguably the closest Hashira to Gyomei in overall combat ability. The Wind Hashira is incredibly fast, aggressive, and durable, with a fighting style built around relentless attacks.
His rare Marechi blood can intoxicate demons and create openings during battle. More importantly, Sanemi possesses extraordinary pain tolerance and refuses to slow down even after suffering severe injuries.
During the battle against Kokushibo, Sanemi demonstrates why he is considered one of the Corps' greatest warriors. After awakening his Demon Slayer Mark and obtaining a red blade, his combat ability reaches an even higher level.

3. Obanai Iguro

Blog image
Obanai initially appears to be one of the more mysterious Hashira, but his performance during the final battle reveals just how powerful he really is.
The Serpent Hashira uses an unusual sword and unpredictable movements that make his attacks extremely difficult to read. His fighting style becomes even more effective when combined with Kaburamaru, his snake companion.
During the battle against Muzan, Obanai pushes himself far beyond his limits, awakening the Demon Slayer Mark and eventually gaining a red blade. Despite his injuries and physical limitations, he continues fighting until the very end.

4. Giyu Tomioka

Blog image
Giyu was the first Hashira most fans encountered and immediately established himself as an incredibly powerful swordsman.
The Water Hashira possesses exceptional swordsmanship and developed his own technique, Dead Calm, to counter incoming attacks. His battle against Akaza demonstrates just how far his abilities had progressed.
After awakening the Demon Slayer Mark, Giyu is able to fight alongside Tanjiro against Upper Rank Three. His calm personality also makes him an extremely efficient fighter because he rarely wastes movement or energy.
Giyu may not be the strongest Hashira, but he is one of the most technically complete.

5. Muichiro Tokito

Blog image
Muichiro is a prodigy unlike almost anyone else in the Demon Slayer Corps.
Despite being incredibly young, he became a Hashira after only a short period of training. His Mist Breathing makes his movements extremely difficult to predict, and his natural talent allows him to adapt rapidly during battle.
After awakening his Demon Slayer Mark, Muichiro manages to defeat Gyokko, an Upper Rank demon, largely on his own.
His later battle against Kokushibo also demonstrates his extraordinary potential. If Muichiro had lived longer, there's little doubt that he could have become one of the greatest swordsmen of his generation.

6. Mitsuri Kanroji

Blog image
Mitsuri may look like the cheerful and carefree member of the Hashira, but her physical abilities are anything but ordinary.
Her unique muscular structure gives her incredible strength despite her appearance, while her flexible Nichirin sword allows her to attack from unusual angles and distances.
The Love Hashira also possesses remarkable speed and stamina. After awakening her Demon Slayer Mark, she becomes capable of holding her own against Upper Rank Four, Hantengu's strongest manifestation.
Her combination of physical strength, flexibility, speed, and an extremely unusual weapon makes Mitsuri one of the hardest Hashira to fight.

7. Kyojuro Rengoku

Blog image
Rengoku's ranking is difficult because he died before awakening the Demon Slayer Mark, but his base abilities were already extraordinary.
The Flame Hashira fought Akaza, Upper Rank Three, almost entirely on his own and managed to push the demon into taking the battle seriously.
His incredible strength, stamina, swordsmanship, and determination allowed him to continue fighting despite suffering devastating injuries.
Although he ultimately lost, Rengoku's performance against an Upper Rank demon without the advantages later Hashira gained through their Marks remains one of the most impressive feats in the series.

8. Tengen Uzui

Blog image
Tengen is one of the most physically gifted Hashira and arguably one of the most underrated.
The Sound Hashira possesses incredible speed, strength, reflexes, and endurance, combined with his shinobi background. His dual Nichirin blades and explosive techniques make his fighting style particularly destructive.
During his battle against Gyutaro, Tengen continues fighting even after being poisoned, losing an arm, and suffering severe injuries.
His Musical Score technique allows him to analyze an opponent's attacks and identify patterns, giving him an enormous advantage in prolonged battles.

9. Shinobu Kocho

Blog image
Shinobu is physically different from the other Hashira because she lacks the raw strength required to decapitate demons with a traditional Nichirin sword.
Instead, she turned her weakness into her greatest weapon.
The Insect Hashira specializes in poison and uses a uniquely designed sword to inject lethal wisteria poison directly into demons. Her incredible speed allows her to land attacks before opponents can react.
Her strategy ultimately plays a crucial role against Doma, Upper Rank Two. While Shinobu ranks ninth in overall combat power, her intelligence, speed, and poison make her extremely dangerous against the right opponent.

Honorable Mentions

If we expand the list beyond the nine Hashira from the main Demon Slayer era, several legendary Demon Slayers deserve recognition. Former Hashira such as Kanae Kocho and Sakonji Urokodaki had considerable experience, while Yoriichi Tsugikuni stands in a completely different category altogether. Yoriichi was not formally one of the nine Hashira we know from the main story, so we've kept him out of this ranking rather than artificially adding him to complete a Top 10.

Conclusion

Ranking the Hashira is almost guaranteed to start an argument.
Gyomei's number-one position is probably the easiest choice, but the rankings below him become much harder. Sanemi, Obanai, Giyu, Muichiro, and Mitsuri all have incredible feats, while Rengoku and Tengen are harder to judge because they never received the same late-series power-ups.
And that's what makes the Hashira so interesting.
They aren't simply ranked by strength. Each one has a completely different fighting style, personality, and approach to combat.
So now it's your turn:
